I know I’ve missed two months already… but I’ll make it up by releasing a huge hit as the October song! This is Gunz, featuring Lutan Fyah – music written and mixed by DJ Large for No Monkey Business, vocals recorded and mixed by Astma at Basecamp Studios – and everything was mastered by Sören von Malmborg at Cosmos. Time Will Tell provided the artwork. Enjoy!
Finally, on the last day of July – here’s the July song! ‘Dressed to Kill Under a Full Moon’ is produced by Jimmy Ledrac, mixed by Astma and Jimmy Ledrac, mastered by Sören von Malmborg at Cosmos. I wrote and performed the vocal parts and Time Will Tell once again hit me with the wicked artwork. Enjoy!
I was on my way to the train early one Sunday morning, and the whole city was empty except for some junkies already working on getting their next fix. I started thinking about the sad irony it is that some of us try to escape from the tough world we live through drugs – but those same drugs drag us into an even more evil world. You want to break free from the scary, or sometimes boring, world – but the drugs make you get really caught up in the system you try to set yourself free from…
That’s what this month’s song is about. It’s produced by Jimmy Ledrac, and he mixed the music too. Astma recorded the vocals and mixed them – and Sören von Malmborg mastered everything in Kabul, Afghanistan (!). The artwork is designed by DhemIAK from Time will Tell as always. Download the wave here (best quality), or the mp3 here. If you want to sing along the lyrics are here.
‘We got the top of the underground, top of the mainstream – we rule ’em both and everything in between!’
After my new single ‘Svennebanan’ – so far – got 70 000 views in 5 days, and everybody from blog gurus to mainstream press have appointed it the number 1 summer tune this year, and a lot of so called true Looptroop fans have complained that we used to be better when we were more underground – I would like to do two things.
Firstly I would like to tell the people who say things along the lines of ‘they used to be more real when they dropped Modern Day City Symphony’, that you obviously didn’t listen to it back then. Cus if you had you would know that even back then people were saying that we sold out cus we released ‘Modern Day’ on a cd. So the album you’re referring to as real today, the true fans back in the days were calling fake.
And every album we have released since then has been received the same way: with ‘The Struggle Continues’ we definitely sold out cus all of a sudden we were singing, and talking about love. ‘Fort Europa’ might have been more political, but then that was the problem instead, and ‘Good Things’ you probably still remember what people said about it. Maybe it’s time to realize that we will always change our sound (even though you can still hear it’s us), and break new ground? We don’t like repeating ourselves, we like to evolve. And you don’t have to like the new stuff. Just understand, that something you think is real now, someone else has deemed sell out before – and most likely, someone will consider what you think is sell out now, very real in the future.
Secondly, I would like to smack you over the head with April’s song of the month, nothing less than an instant classic called ‘Growing up on the Road’. It features none other than COS to the MIC, and it’s produced once again by Astma and Rocwell. If you find it hard to believe how I can release ‘Svennebanan’ one day, and this the next; understand that we got too many styles for anyone to keep us pigeon holed.
Download the Wav here! Download the mp3 here! And download the lyrics here! The artwork is designed by Time Will Tell (it’s a photo taken during one of our tours in Australia – I would say the first one, but who really knows). It was mixed by Astma for DLX entertainment, and mastered by Sören von Malmborg in Cosmos studios.
I made a song called ‘Ya Slippin’, as a teacher in a hiphop school. The students’ assignment was to make a song that could have been on, for example, Nas’ Illmatic or any of the legendary hiphop albums through the years. They were to study the styles and, not copy, but more to make something in that spirit. I tried myself, together with Astma who produced it – with EPMD’s Strictly Business – and this is the result. It was a tough assignment, and I don’t think this song sounds like it could’ve been on that album – but it gave me inspiration anyway. Note: THIS IS NOT THE SONG OF THE MONTH! That song has been a bit delayed and will be released mid April or so – I hope this will do till then.
What you all have been waiting for: the Promoe March release – this one is called ‘The Logic of Dreams’. It’s produced by Astma & Rocwell, and the artwork is designed by Time Will Tell.
It was recorded during one of many late night sessions in Astma’s studio (just like ‘New Day’ and ‘Blind’ were), when people finally have stopped calling and emailing for the day. A perfect time to be creative. Enjoy!
